Creator James O’Barr praises Luke Evans in ‘The Crow’ tests as they move back to the original ‘source material’

The Total Film magazine issue 210 is has a great comic-book movie preview and The Crow is also included.

Creator James O’Barr was included in the SDCC discussions on the reboot of the Crow franchise and said it was the director who is pointing the story back to the original comic book.

Brandon Lee as The Crow movie photoO’Barr admits he was persuaded to jump on board by the film’s Spanish director, F. Javier Gutiérrez, making his English-language debut following 2008’s acclaimed Before The Fall.

“It was his idea to go right back to the source material and essentially shoot it shot-for-shot, as in the book, but with a little more backstory for some of the characters,” O’Barr said to TF.

“He wants to be as faithful as possible, even down to all the visual metaphors of trains and horses.”

The Raven and Immortals star Luke Evans will get the daunting task of leading the new film, but O’Barr offered some early positive reviews.

“The producers showed me some shots of [Evans] in the make-up and the tragedy really shows on his face, especially his eyes. He has a really commanding screen presence.”

There are no dates set for the new film so stay tuned for casting and production dates as they become available.
