The hyena, which broke free of the protected Namizimu Forest, has attacked four people so far. The Maravi Post described one of the attacks in a report Wednesday:

“It pounced on a man early morning last Friday and when his wife tried to rescue him, the animal bit her as well”.

The man revceived severe bites on his leg. Most injuries by the normally shy and easily scared beast were considered minor according to the report.

The behavior is out of character for a hyena which causes authorities to suspect the animal is rabid.

Government hunters have been deployed to hunt down the crazed beast.
