Coroner Bill Watson says Kendrick Johnson case ‘handled wrong’ and the ‘body was moved’

The Lowndes County coroner Bill Watson told South Georgia and North Florida’s WCTV-TV that the Kendrick Johnson investigation was handled wrong from the very beginning and the crime scene at Lowndes County High School was “compromised” prior to his arrival–several hours later after the body was initially found.

Wednesday’s interview was the first time Watson has publicly come forward about the scene at the Old Gymnasium at Lowndes County High School on January 11.

This was Watson’s first on-camera interview since Kendrick Johnson was found dead at the Old Gymnasium at Lowndes County High School inside wrestling mats on January 11.

“I just think the whole thing was handled wrong,” Bill Watson told the station. “We should have never been told that there was no foul play.”

The family has been protesting and trying to get answers raised out of the investigation and the coroner’s initial notification was approximately 6 hours after the boy’s body was discovered.

“Well it compromises my investigation one hundred percent,” Watson said. “I don’t know what the county did when they got there on the scene. The body had been moved. The scene, in my opinion, had been compromised.”

“That should let everyone know that something really is wrong with this picture,” Kenneth Johnson, Kendrick’s Father, was quoted as saying. “We want answers and we want justice.”

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has said that the official autopsy and toxicology report will be done within the next two weeks.
