Cook County medical examiner confirms Adrian Gomez as man killed in Chicago machinery accident
The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified the man caught and killed in the machinery at EMJ Metals in Schaumburg as Adrian Gomez.
Gomez, 26, of Crystal Lake, was an employee at the metal supply company and pronounced dead at 10:40 a.m. at the Mitchell Drive facility in Schaumburg, according to Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office spokeswoman Natalia Derevyanny.
Gomez’s death is now being investigated by the Schaumburg Police Department and U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
Scott Allen, a spokesman for the agency’s Chicago office, confirmed that federal investigators were at EMJ Metal on Thursday “conducting interviews with the employer, employees and any potential witnesses, to try to determine what occurred.”
Occupational Safety and Health Administration records did not show any prior accidents at the company.
A statement from the company supplied to SUN News Report, states: “We at Reliance Steel & Aluminum Co. and our subsidiary Earle M. Jorgensen Company are deeply saddened by the tragic death of Adrian Gomez that occurred at EMJ’s Schaumburg, Illinois, location yesterday.
“Reliance and EMJ are working with the authorities to investigate this terrible accident and we extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to Mr. Gomez’ s family, friends, and colleagues.”
