Congresswoman Barabara Lee attacks GOP ‘cruel and heartless’ tax bill as ‘Robin Hood in reverse’
Congresswoman Barbara Lee released the following statement on the Republican tax plan released today:
“Today Republicans in Congress reached a new low. In yet another chapter of their billionaires-first legislative agenda, the GOP unveiled a tax bill that delivers trillions of dollars in tax giveaways to the richest 1% on the backs of children, seniors, and everyday Americans.
“This cruel and heartless tax bill is Robin Hood in reverse – it steals from struggling families and gives to the rich. The Republicans tax plan cuts the corporate tax rate from 35% to 20%, giving corporations a $1.5 trillion tax cut. And, as we saw with the Republican budget, their plan sets the stage to gut Medicare and Medicaid, putting millions of seniors, children and people with disabilities at risk.
“The plan put forth today by Republicans is also a jobs killer. By lowering the tax rate on foreign profits, Republicans are encouraging wealthy corporations to move jobs overseas.
“The only winners in this proposal are multi-national corporations, wealthy foreign investors, members of the Trump Cabinet and the President himself. Simply put, the ‘Tax Cuts and Jobs Act’ is a disgrace. Americans deserve tax reform that leads to better jobs, better wages and ultimately a better future for families.”
