Colin Trevorrow will direct ‘Jurassic World 3,’ still set for 2021, on ‘Jurassic Park’ anniversary

While fans were skeptical, Colin Trevorrow proved to be successful in resurrecting the Jurassic Park franchise with a $1.6 billion dollar blockbuster in 2015, Jurassic World. Now Trevorrow is returning to close out his trilogy.

While on the press tour for his latest film, Ready Player One, legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that in addition to co-writing the sequel’s screenplay, Trevorrow will also return to the director’s chair.

“Colin Trevorrow is going write and direct the third Jurassic World story.” Spielberg will also remain involved as an executive producer.

As previously reported, the tentatively titled Jurassic World 3 will open on the twenty-eighth anniversary of the first film, on June 11, 2021, and will feature a script from Trevorrow and up-and-comer Emily Carmichael (Pacific Rim Uprising).

Trevorrow had previously been attached to direct Star Wars: Episode IX and passed the Jurassic World trilogy to acclaimed director J.A. Bayona, who helmed this summer’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

However, after losing the Star Wars job due to “creative differences,” it looks like his schedule was left with a pretty significant opening that lined up with the production schedule for the franchise’s sixth film.

Owen (Chris Pratt) and Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) will be joined by BD Wong and Jeff Goldblum, reprising their roles from the previous films.

Directed by Bayona (The Impossible), the epic action-adventure is written by Trevorrow, and its co-writer, Derek Connolly.  Producers Frank Marshall and Pat Crowley once again partner with Spielberg and Trevorrow in leading the filmmakers for this stunning installment.  Belén Atienza joins the team as a producer.

The film also stars James Cromwell, Ted Levine, Justice Smith, Geraldine Chaplin, Daniella Pineda, Toby Jones, Rafe Spall and Isabella Sermon.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom arrives into theaters on June 22, 2018.
