Closing In On Retirement Age? Follow These Tips for More Efficient Social Security Disability Processing

With the state of today’s economy, it can difficult to determine a sound plan when it comes to applying for social security. In addition to that, even if you do have your path mapped out, your application can be denied, and for first-time applicants usually is, more than 50% of the time. There are several ways of increasing your chances of success during the application process, though, and it involves three major points. First, get your records in order. Second, be in contact with both lawyers and doctor. And third, pay attention to the fine print.

Getting Your Records in Order

Take all the time you need to collect all of your paperwork. Start years in advance of social security age, if you need to, in order to not rush the process. Medical records, dental records, job records, military service records; everything should be on hand. Names, phone numbers, and addresses of medical clinics, hospitals, insurance companies – collect everything. And make sure that you have it in every possible format as well – digital and physical. There are different ways of searching through different mediums, so it is best to just have everything covered.

Find Legal Representation that Works with Lawyers and Doctors

Most people will try to work through the Social Security system by working with lawyers, and much of the application process deals with the legality of a claim. However, lawyers do not necessarily have the type of medical expertise that is required to have an effective claim. What that means to you, is that you should approach a law office that can help you both legally and medically, and work with them. The success rate of an SSDI application skyrockets when medical doctors work alongside lawyers in this way.

Pay Attention to the Fine Print

Many, many social security disability applicants are denied simply because they don’t follow instructions. If there is something unclear that you don’t understand, visit a local office, research an official website, or talk to someone who can help you in person. A simple error can cause months of delays in getting an applicant benefits, and at that point, there is nothing anyone can do to help. Read every instruction, have every piece of paperwork handy, and don’t skip any steps of make any assumptions.

Because of the stressed economy, government and social progress are under lots of pressure to make financial budgets work, and that means that the more people they can deny benefits, the closer they will come to meeting quotas. It is your responsibility to take charge of your financial future, but having a team of the right people behind you will work to your advantage even with these tightened guidelines.
