Clare McConnell opens up about playing a ‘Star Trek Discovery’ Klingon

Last week repors confirmed that four new actors were announced as part of the cast for Star Trek: Discovery and one of them, Clare McConnell, spoke about the role with Toronto’s Metro. McConnell said that she was “very excited” to get the part of Klingon leader Dennas and she was glad she could finally talk about it after being cast last December.

One area of interest was the lessons in Klingon.

“Each series is such a classic thing, but also such an innovative thing,” she explained. “The actors have really been encouraged to make it their own. I’ve even been encouraged to make the Klingon language my own.”

McConnell says the ships “looked incredible” and her Klingon costume was “very cool” adding that “there’s an atmosphere on set that everyone wants to get it right, because Star Trek is such a beloved series.”

Walking Dead alum Sonequa Martin-Green landed the lead role in the series as a lieutenant commander aboard the Discovery, the cast includes Michelle Yeoh as Starfleet Captain Georgiou, Doug Jones as Starfleet Science Officer and alien Lt. Saru, Anthony Rapp as “astromycologist” and fungus expert Lt. Stamets, and a trio of kilngons played by Chris Obi, Shazad Latif, and Mary Chieffo.

James Frain, who played Azrael on Fox’s Gotham, has been cast as Spock’s dad, Sarek. Jason Isaacs has been cast as Lorca, Captain of the Discovery, but all reports point to the show centering around Martin-Green’s character.

Office Space star Rainn Wilson has been cast as the famous criminal/conman Harry Mudd.

The 13 episode first season is set for a Fall release.
