‘Civil War’ directors talk Spider-Man, Tom Holland auditioning
Fans have learned that Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal played a key role in the hiring of Tom Holland (In the Heart of the Sea) as Spider-Man and now Captain America: Civil War directors Joe and Anthony Russo open up about the casting, wanting a younger Peter Parker.
Spider-Man will make his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Captain America: Civil War next year, and talking to Entertainment Weekly recently, co-director Joe Russo shed some light on the work that went into choosing their Peter Parker.
“We did two screen tests with the character. We were pretty vocal about who we wanted for the part,” Joe explained, pointing to Tom Holland’s work in The Impossible.

“He’s also a dancer and a gymnast. He fits the part like you can’t believe. Another thing that we were really pushing for was to go young with the part. It’s the only way to differentiate it from what’s been done in the past. Get him as close as you can to the age that [the actor] is.”
Captain America: Civil War opens on May 6, 2016.
