Cirque fundraises for clean water with ‘One Drop’
In a one-night live event, Cirque du Soleil partnered to bring the 2016 “One Night for ONE DROP” event to theaters with performers from eight different Cirque du Soleil Vegas shows. 237 artists, 20 countries, 135 technicians, make-up artists and costume designers – all volunteered for their belief in One Drop.
“We spent months creating a one-night-only production knowing that all of our hard work would culminate in a single performance,” said Artistic Director Hassan El Hajjami. “I am so excited to see our work come back to life in an entirely new way in theaters across the country. It’s going to be extraordinary!”
Water is the essence of life, a theme not quietly blending into the backdrop as performers amazing a live crowd in Las Vegas and audiences enjoying the live feed provided via Fathom Events.
The audience traveled to different continents to experience the beauty and purity of water in all its different states. There was beautiful choreography, particularly the scene with the glacier in the middle of the Antarctic featuring hip-hop dancers turned penguins. There was the topic of water in the Amazon jungle, then on to the Carnival in Rio.
Incredible acrobatics during a number called “Journey Across the World” had the performer essentially “floating.”
Guy Laliberté, president of the ONE DROP Foundation and founder of Cirque du Soleil, took the stage to recognize all the hard work that went into making the event a success. And as he brought the evening to a close, saying: “Tonight, we pour one drop of water in the ocean, but we hope it will create a powerful ripple effect,” he said.
“Performing in this show was a dream come true,” said Miles Brown. “All Cirque shows have the ability to take your breath away, but this one can also change lives around the world. If you want to experience one of the most exciting Cirque shows ever created while giving back to the community…”
