Christopher Buchanan arrested for murder of Jordan White, teen found dead at the Dawson Homes apartment complex

Forrest City Police in Arkansas have identified the murder suspect for the death of Jordan White as Christopher Buchanan.

Buchanan, 29. was taken into custody for questioning Thursday. During the interview, authorities were able to obtain a warrant to search his home. In a follow-up interview, Buchanan confessed to his involvement in the crime.

White, 15, was found dead behind the Dawson Homes apartment complex early Thursday morning.

Buchanan was charged with capital murder.

Police Chief Deon Lee said they have not yet received the autopsy results from the State Crime Lab but believe Jordan White died from blunt force trauma to the head. Unofficially, a source confirmed to the Dispatch that Hamilton used a “hammer” to bludgeon White “in the face.”

Lee added that Buchanan is from the Chicago area and moved to Arkansas in January, and has a prior criminal history.  He also stated they pair knew one another.

Buchanan lives at the apartment complex where the boy’s body was found.

“The incident is not gang related and it is not indicative of Forrest City of Arkansas,” Lee said during the press conference.

Buchanan is currently being held in the St. Francis County Jail on no bond.

White’s family spoke with Channel 3 news: “He cut grass, he washed cars, just so he could get money to go to the candy lady,” his cousin Arneasha Chism recalled. “He’s taken for no reason and it hurts. I had to drive here from Texas.”

The family says just days before the murder, they told White to stay away from Buchanan, who they think had a motive all along.

“It could have been anyone’s kid, but it was my kid,” Jordan’s mother Verna White said.

Lee says this kind of crime is rare in Forrest City, a small, tight-knit community. He estimates they average just one or two homicides a year.

“We are a small community with a lot of love for each other.”

Anyone with information about White’s murder is asked to call the Forrest City Police Department at (870) 633-3434.
