MSNBC host Chris Matthews continued his name calling and vitriol to his political adversaries, now calling Joni Ernst the “castrator” and mocking her stance on guns.

While hosting Eugene Robinson, Jay Newton Small, and Nick Confessore on MSNBC’s Hardball political roundtable, the newly elected Republicans like Joni Ernst, who ran way to the right in the 2014 primaries, were said to be the latest in the “GOP’s right-wing clown car.”

Ernst won the Senate seat in Iowa with Matthews fixed on a “castrating the pork” out of Washington political ad, describing her as “pretty radical” to the point that “[s]he has talked about killing politicians she doesn’t agree with.”

Here is what Ernst actually said: “I have a beautiful little Smith & Wesson, nine millimeter, and it goes with me virtually everywhere, but I do believe in the right to carry, and I believe in the right to defend myself and my family, whether it’s from an intruder, or whether it’s from a government should they decide that my rights are no longer important.”

The full transcript of his comments are below:

CHRIS MATTHEWS, MSNBC: The GOP’s right-wing clown car returned to DC today, it was full of familiar faces like the Senate’s #1 troublemaker Ted Cruz…

But at least one new passenger has arrived, Joni Ernst of Iowa, the castrator. She bragged about carrying her Smith & Wesson everywhere she goes to use against government she doesn’t like and pushing impeachment of the president…

She’s saying basically: I have a gun, now she’ll have to go through a metal detector on Capitol Hill, thank god. But she said she is going to use that gun, not just for intruders in her home, her castle, wherever she goes, she has to protect herself from the government. The government. So she’s in the government now, and if somebody in the wrong branch of government says something nasty to her — it’s serious business. What, she’s going to shoot up the government if they don’t impeach Obama? What a pile of stuff she brings in with her.
