Choose from the top European beach destinations

Europe is well known for its historic and beautiful cities, the tantalizing cuisine of each member country and more. However, this fabulous continent also features some of the top beaches in the world. Whether you are looking for the buzzing beach resorts or a quieter experience, the following includes top choices for a beach vacation

  1. On the beach in Spain

Mainland Spain has around 5,000 miles of coastline to choose from, including the Atlantic coast and Bay of Biscay in the north and the blue Mediterranean Sea in the south. This might make it hard to choose the best destination for a beach vacation. While the south can get a little steamy in the summer months, Asturias is a cooler and greener destination with some of the most beautiful beaches in Spain.

With the Picos de Europa as a backdrop and hugged by rocky coves, visitors to Asturias have  choice of golden sand, quiet coves and beach resort towns, where surfers can try their skills and kayakers can make a splash. Ribadesella is a great spot to visit, with the famous Tito Bustillo Cave with its Paleolithic rock art to visit, along with the gorgeous Playa de Santa Marina, close to the estuary of the Sella River.

Heading down south, Marbella is the star of the Costa del Sol with its famous Golden Mile of well-kept sand, stretching along in front of the city, with many restaurants, chiringuitos and bars along the way. Everyone can find their own patch of beach, whether near the luxury resorts or in quieter areas. Try your hand at paddle boarding, enjoy a boat trip from the marina or simply relax under a thatched parasol, cooling cocktail in hand.

  1. Soaking up the sun in Italy

Italy is a popular destination for its iconic cultural cities, including Rome, Florence, Pisa, Venice and more, as well as its delicious traditional cuisine. However, shaped like a boot as it is, Italy also offers a tremendous range of gorgeous beaches, lapped by the Adriatic, Ionian, Tyrrhenian and Mediterranean Seas. Talk about spoiled for choice!

Several of the best beaches in Italy can be found on the Amalfi Coast – pretty coves, backed by rugged, rocky cliffs and beautiful architecture. Among the best is the Marina Grande in Positano, a tiny town known for its attractive and colorful houses and offering panoramic views over the sea.

For those seeking privacy and peace, Fiordo di Furore on the Amalfi Coast is an excellent choice. The pebbly beach is a little small, but is hidden away between two soaring cliffs, resulting in a narrow gorge with beautiful turquoise water. The views as you climb down a winding staircase to the beach are simply stunning.

  1. Living it up on the beach in France

France offers many lovely beaches on a choice of oceans, including the North Sea, the Ligurian Sea and, of course, the Mediterranean Sea. Some of the best beaches are to be found on the French Riviera (or Côte d’Azur) in southeastern France.

Saint-Tropez has been popular with artists and the “jet set” since the 1960s and remains a popular destination for its lovely beaches, iconic restaurants and lively nightlife. What used to be a tiny fishing village now hosts more luxury yachts than it does fishing boats. As for beaches, two of the best here at the Plage de Tahiti and Plage de Pampelonne, both of which are lined with bars, restaurants and cafes with every amenity necessary for a great beach vacation.

For those looking for an island vacation in France, Corsica is an excellent choice. This Mediterranean island has a number of stylish towns along its coastline, beautiful dense forested areas and craggy mountain peaks. Corsica has a selection of some of the best beaches in France among the 200 beaches surrounding its coastline. On the northern coast lies the Gulf of Saint-Florent, where Saleccia Beach can be found, while Cap Corsica offers the beautiful Barcaggio Beach.

Laze away warm sunny days on some of the best beaches in Europe, enjoying the cultural ambiance, delicious cuisine and hospitality of each country in style.
