Chinese man charged with biting police officer while drunk, his name is Bai Ting
Chinese man Bai Ting has been arrested after allegedly biting a police officer in Singapore.
Under the guise of ironic and strange, the man’s name is Bai Ting and his tale of drunken assault has gone viral across the Internet.
The 28-year-old man now faces charges of being drunk and incapable of taking care of himself in a public place in addition to the assault. He was found drunk and as police were taking him to Bedok Police Division Headquarters he reportedly bit Sergeant Ng Wen Chi’s right forearm.
Bai faces a fine of up to S$1,000 and a month of jail time for the alcohol offences, while hurting a police officer could see him sent down for seven years, caned and fined.
Some media may apprehensive about reporting after the story as Chinese names sounding like English words have gotten reporters in trouble in the past – remember the San Francisco plane crash where a news anchor reported victims as “Sum Ting Wong” and “Ho Lee Fuk.”
