Reports Saturday said some 900 pigs were recovered.

City officials say based on labels pinned in the ears of the pigs, many of the pigs came from Jiaxing City in east China’s Zhejiang Province.

Reports note that residents of the province have been dumping the pigs in the waterway. Even Jiaxing City authorities admit dumping the pigs.

According to the report, laboratory tests found porcine circovirus, a virus that spreads among pigs but not to human beings, in one water sample taken from the Huangpu River; however, authorities say it does not affect the water quality.
