The new cases include patients from Shanghai, Jiangsu province and Zhejiang province.

In addition, in Shanghai, a four-year-old boy was discharged from a local hospital today after recovering from the H7N9 bird flu, making him the first patient declared cured of the influenza that’s killed nine people in China.

Also in Shanghai, more than 100,000 live birds have been killed in the past week at live-poultry markets across the city in an effort to contain the problem, according to the Shanghai Municipal Ministry of Agriculture.

The Chinese government is actively investigating this event and has heightened disease surveillance.

The WHO says, at this time there is no evidence of ongoing human-to-human transmission.
