Chikungunya in Cuba: Six imported cases to date
Ministry of Public Health of Cuba is stepping up surveillance and control measures for travelers arriving from countries with risk of chikungunya, particularly the islands of the Caribbean.

According to Granma, the Official Official Organ of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba reports (computer translated) six travel-associated chikungunya cases from Haiti (5) and the Dominican Republic (1).
This is up one case from Friday when the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) reported five imported cases in Cuba.
Health officials recommend people with permanent residence in Cuba that are traveling to countries in the Caribbean area, take measures for their protection during their stay and go in the first 72 hours of their return to the family physician’s office if presenting any symptoms of chikungunya (high fever, headache, rash, muscle and joint pain).
The Health System reaffirms the need to intensify vector control being done in the country, so it is essential that each home and workplace to ensure the necessary actions to eliminate potential breeding sites of these vectors. Health personnel are properly trained and have taken the measures required for the care of cases.
