Chicago man Julius Ramsey denied bond after DNA links him to Oak Brook hotel sexual assault of staff member
A DNA match was cited by the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office in denying bond to Julius R. Ramsey and is linked to a Oak Brook hotel sexual assault on September 9.
Ramsey, 37, of the 4400 block of West Wilcox Street in Chicago’s West Garfield Park neighborhood, appeared Saturday before DuPage County Judge Thomas Else, who denied bond for class X felonies: three counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault and aggravated kidnapping.
Reportedly, Ramsey was linked by DNA to assault of an unnamed a 20-year-old employee of the Hyatt House, 210 W. 22nd St. in Oak Brook, who was taken to Elmhurst Hospital after escaping a vacant room of the hotel where she discussed the sexual assault with Oak Brook police.
He held the woman at gunpoint, threatening to kill her during the incident.
On Thursday, Ramsey voluntarily came to the Oak Brook Police Department to be interviewed, and after that, he was taken into custody and charged Friday.
Prosecutors said a firearm that matched a description, provided by the victim, of the gun used in the assault was found in one of the rooms Ramsey was renting.
Sgt. Danny Ramirez of the Oak Brook Police Department said the victim called a relative, who was in the hotel parking lot, after the assault.
The victim’s relative came into the hotel and alerted a manager at the front desk, and the manager went to check on the victim, Ramirez said.
Seven surrounding police agencies assisted the investigation, along with DuPage County Sheriff’s Department evidence technicians.
Cook County records show Ramsey, who was convicted in 2018 of misdemeanor aggravated assault while using a deadly weapon and criminal trespass to a residence, was given one year of supervision.
Ramsey’s case will be heard later this month and faces a penalty of up to 90 years if found guilty of all charges.
