Chelsey Anderson identified as woman killed in Arizona murder suicide by Tyler Ruiz
Police have identified the man and a woman who died in a murder-suicide Monday in Mesa as Chelsey Anderson and Tyler Ruiz. Police confirmed that Chelsey’s sister, Sharice, was also shot and was taken to a hospital where she remains in stable condition.
Steve Berry, a spokesman with the Mesa Police Department, explained that Tyler Ruiz, 24, shot and killed Chelsey Anderson, 23, and wounded the 35-year-old sister before shooting himself dead.
The incident happened at an apartment complex in the 600 block of East Main Street at about 1 a.m. Monday morning. Officers responded to the El Rancho del Arte Apartments near Horne and Main Street and found the gruesome scene.
Ruiz and Anderson had a child, a 19-month-old boy, who was present at the time of the shooting.
The child, who was unharmed, has since been released to family members of Anderson.
Chelsey was crowned Miss Black Teen Arizona in 2010.
A GoFundMe page has been created in honor of Chelsey Anderson with the goal of helping to cover funeral costs and expenses for her son.
Here’s the remarks from that page:
Early morning on February 5th a young woman, friend, sister, daughter, aunt, but most importantly mother, lost her life tragically in a domestic murder-suicide. Chelsey was just 23 years young. She left behind a child of only 1 year old whom her sister & her family is now taking in. We are trying to cover not only funeral expenses but also expenses for her sister & family of 5 who have at Chelsey’s wishes taken in her infant child. All the money will first go to her funeral cost & any left will be given to her sister for accommodations to suit the needs of her son that is now left without both his mother & father. Chelsey was an honor student, valedictorian of her class, & was crowned Miss Black Teen Arizona 2010. Please help by contributing what you can to help Chelsey’s family put her to rest & help her sister who in this difficult time is trying to provide as best as possible for her son.
