Check out the first poster for Steven Spielberg’s ‘The BFG’
The first teaser poster for Steven Spielberg’s feature adaptation of Roald Dahl’s classic The BFG has dropped courtesy of Disney.
From the human beans that brought you E.T and the author of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Matilda comes The BFG!
In the recent teaser, Sophie (newcomer Ruby Barnhill), who takes us through the rules for witching hour — which, contrary to popular belief, she says, falls at 3 AM. “Never get out of bed. Never go near the window. Never look behind the curtain,” she says.
But then she does. And we get the first look at Mark Rylance — or at least a sizable part of him — as the titular Big Friendly Giant.
The story sees the BFG introduce Sophie to the wonders and perils of Giant Country.
The giant is 24 feet tall and endearingly dimwitted. He keeps to himself for the most part, unlike Bloodbottler (Bill Hader) and Fleshlumpeater (Jemaine Clement), who are twice as big and at least twice as scary and have been known to eat humans.
Sophie initially is frightened of the BFG but comes to realize he is actually quite gentle and charming. Having both been on their own in the world up until now, their affection for each other quickly grows.
But Sophie’s presence in Giant Country attracts the unwanted attention of the other giants, who have become increasingly more bothersome. The pair soon depart for London to see the Queen (Penelope Wilton) and warn her of the precarious giant situation, but first they must convince the Queen and her maid, Mary (Rebecca Hall), that giants do indeed exist.
Together, they come up with a plan to get rid of the giants once and for all.
Check out that footage below.
The BFG opens in U.S. theaters on July 1, 2016, the year that marks the 100th anniversary of Dahl’s birth.
