Chalize Theron shaves head for ‘Mad Max’ role and talks ‘Prometheus’
From “Snow White and the Huntsman” to “Prometheus,” Chalize Theron is center stage and headed to the outback as “Mad Max: Fury Road” is beginning production.
During an interview with Slash Film on Monday, the “Hancock” actress addressed the secrecy of “Prometheus” and finally being able to discuss it more openly.
There’s something nice about a film just speaking for itself and you can’t do it with every movie. This movie kind of is a pedigree that people know what to expect, so you can get away with it. But it’s my favorite way to go and sit in a theater and have the lights go off and just not know what the f*** you’re going to see. I feel like everything is given away these days. For me, it wasn’t hard at all not to talk about it. I could just be really cheeky and blame it on the studio.
Theron was impressed by the massive sets and confirmed that the Prometheus ship was built, using little green screen.
The entire ship was built. Yean, an entire ship was built, I mean, like every button, every wall, every hallway, ever. I think Arthur did an amazing job. The green screen that I saw was through the windows. That was it.
The “Monster” actress praised director Ridley Scott, his use of the massive sets and not relying on CGI.
I think he comes from the school of understanding that the marriage between that real set and CGI is what makes it good, because to have the actual set is helpful for your actors. And so, it helps raise the stakes for the performances, which makes the movie better. I know that what we did as actors in this film would not have been what it is if we were just acting with green screens around us and stuff like that. It was amazing.
Theron is headed to the set of “Mad Max: Fury Road,” which appears to feature a bald version of Theron. People Magazine was first to report on Monday that the star went into a salon on June 6 and exited without her long blonde locks. All of the photos feature the actress in a hat or beanie.
Theron co-stars in “Prometheus” with Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Guy Pearce and Idris Elba. She also plays the evil queen in “Snow White and the Huntsman” with Chris Hemsworth and Kristen Stewart. Both films are currently playing in theaters.
Tom Hardy will portray Max in “Fury Road,” which Theron said started filming this month.
This is still no official release for “Fury Road” at this point.
