Cathy Humphries, woman indicted for hit and run murder of Austin Houser

An Ohio woman was indicted in the hitting, killing a Logan County teen and then leaving the scene.

Cathy Humphries, age 49,  will face charges of aggravated vehicular homicide, and drunk driving, indicted by a Logan County Grand Jury on Tuesday. She struck and killed 15-year-old Austin Houser on October 25 while under the influence of alcohol and marijuana.

Sheriff’s investigators and the prosecutor’s office report laboratory tests came back last week positively linking the pickup to crash debris found around Austin’s body.

Toxicology results show the suspect had blood alcohol level of 0.278 percent, more than three times the legal limit, and that she had recently used marijuana.

Sheriff’s Detective Phil Bailey said the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation put a priority on the testing because of Austin’s age.

A Rushsylvania woman struck the boy who was walking in a ditch on a rural road and left him there.

Houser’s body was not discovered until October 28 when a passerby noticed his body in the ditch.

His mother had reported him missing on October 26.

Investigators were able to locate the suspect vehicle a short time later. Detectives obtained a search warrant and said they were able to match Humphries car to the pieces of debris found at the scene of the crash.

Houser’s mother, Ellenna, said she was aware an indictment was coming. She said she suspected all along the driver was from the area. Humphries’ home is located just a short distance from the Houser’s.

Humphries is scheduled to be arraigned in a Logan County courtroom on Friday at 1:30 p.m.
