Casper Golden Corral voluntarily closes for cleaning, health officials report nearly 200 people sickened after eating at restaurant
In a follow-up to a story yesterday, the yet unidentified gastrointestinal illness outbreak potentially linked to a Casper, WY Golden Corral has grown to nearly 200 people who became ill after eating at the restaurant, according to a Casper-Natrona County Health Department news release Thursday.
In response to the outbreak and in cooperation with local health officials, the Golden Corral released a Press Statement to The Global Dispatch today explaining the actions taken by the restaurant.
Golden Corral franchisee Golden DBL Inc. stated, “Golden Corral has been working with the Casper-Natrona County Health Department as officials seek to determine the cause of illnesses reported within the Casper area. We have been advised that the health department does not know yet whether the source of reported illnesses is related to any local dining establishment, or instead may be related to a virus affecting the community.
Out of an abundance of caution, and in order to ensure that our restaurant is free of any potential contamination, we have voluntarily and temporarily closed this location while we implement a comprehensive process of cleansing and disinfecting, in close coordination with the health department. We believe this is a prudent step to help ensure the health and well-being of our guests and employees.
The restaurant plans to reopen tomorrow once the cleaning process has been completed.”
The outbreak investigation is ongoing.
