‘Captain America The Winter Soldier’ director notes ‘tax break’ to film in Cleveland, shows Hollywood’s hypocrisy?

Tax hikes appear to dominate headlines from Washington, yet Hollywood seems to leverage and demand “tax breaks” to get productions off the ground in different cities.

While many vocal Hollywood stars and celebrities are vocally opposing cuts in taxes, attacking GOP or libertarians for planned cuts to taxes, Hollywood appears to require a “tax break” to film in your town.

Samuel L Jackson Nick Fury photo“If you don’t have the tax break, you can’t get in the game. Not at the level Marvel works at,” said Joe Russo, director of Marvel Studios/Disney’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

“We scouted Philly, Boston, Detroit, Cleveland, all top-tier tax-break scenarios,” added co-director Anthony Russo. “Marvel definitely appreciated the fact that we had shot two movies here, that we were from here, that we knew the city incredibly well and that we could find what we were looking for quickly.”

The pair were talking about filming in Cleveland, the city street shutdowns and how the tax incentives were key to the decision to film there.

Back in January, led by former Democrat Chris Dodd, Hollywood received extensions on their domestic tax breaks, a loophole to the tax code which is estimated to be $430 million in deductions in fiscal years 2013 and 2014, according to estimates by the Joint Committee on Taxation.

So, while Samuel L. Jackson uses fear tactics to garner support for President Obama in his “Wake the F*** Up” video, he doesn’t have a problem with his studio no paying their fair share.

This is a prime example of the hyprocrisy that is Hollywood, and it’s promotion of the liberal agenda. Do as I say and not as I do is a reoccuring theme.

  4. Scott Squires says:

These aren’t tax breaks. The state is actually funding a % of the film, not as an investment, purely as cash to the studio.
