‘Captain America Civil War’: Anthony Mackie talks big, story details, Daniel Bruhl as Baron Zemo
While fans are buzzing about the new Avengers film due in May, news surrounding the story and scope of the third Captain America film, Captain America: Civil War, was dropped this week. Anthony Mackie will return as Falcon while the creators talk about the divide between Cap (Chris Evans) and Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr).
“The way I look at it, Captain America [The Winter Soldier] was a spin-off of Avengers, but it was so much better than Avengers,” Mackie said during an during an interview with WXYZ-TV .
“With the new Avengers [Age of Ultron] coming out, the trailer that came out, it’s gonna be 10 times better than Avengers. So, [Captain America: Civil War] is gonna be so much better than Avengers 2. It can’t be Avengers 2.5, it’s like Avengers 3.8. It’s so far past where Avengers is gonna be this summer. Just having read [Civil War script], and seen the specs of what they’re gonna do, it’s unlike anything you’ve ever seen.”
According to Digital Spy, Avengers: Age of Ultron producer Jeremy Latcham revealed earlier the core reason behind the two primary superheroes turning against each other: “Much of the Avengers’ problem boils down to their lack of a clear leader post-Winter Soldier. SHIELD has fallen apart, so this movie becomes Tony Stark and Steve Rogers trying to put the Avengers together without a parental unit like Nick Fury hovering over them,” explained Latcham.
“What you realize is that these are guys who work best with rules, and probably do need some adult supervision…And as anybody who watched the first film can guess, Tony and Cap aren’t an ideal leadership pairing,” he added.
“Tony has been paying for everything, designing stuff, building new toys, he’s the benefactor of the whole thing. But Steve Rogers is very much in charge of operations and missions, he’s the moral compass.”
“But how long can Tony Stark have someone else be in charge?” In other words, groundwork is being distinctly laid for the Stark vs Rogers core of Civil War.”
The last nugget is Daniel Bruhl will actually play Baron Zemo, another one of Cap’s enemies. Zemo is the main enemy of Captain America, a Nazi scientist fond of creating death rays that would be used to destroy the world. He was responsible for making Bucky Barnes the Winter Soldier.
Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo and co-starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Chadwick Boseman and Scarlett Johansson, Captain America: Civil War will open in theaters on May 6, 2016.
