Canada’s late-term abortion data is evil as nearly 800 babies born alive and ‘left to die’

Over 766 babies were born alive after late-term abortions in Canada between 2013 and 2018 and presumably left to die, according to the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI).

The information is circulating after an article by pro-life blogger Patricia Maloney reported Friday on Run With Life.

“All information regarding the reasons they happen, and what happens to the child after they are born alive, is anecdotal,” Maloney said.

The numbers are likely higher than CIHI reported because the statistics exclude Quebec, Maloney wrote.

Maloney released the statistics as the Conservative Party of Canada (CPC) prepares to meet in Halifax August 23 to 25 for its policy convention.

The CIHI documents the number of “live births resulting from termination of pregnancy in acute inpatient settings” by province and gestational age.

According to CIHI, between 2013 and 2018, eight babies of 29 weeks gestational age and over, 27 babies between 25 to 28 weeks gestation, 557 babies between 21 to 24 weeks, and 141 babies between 17 to 20 weeks survived an abortion and were allegedly left to die.

CIHI broke the numbers down by province: 11 babies in Newfoundland, 30 in Nova Scotia, 390 in Ontario, 67 in Manitoba, 41 in Saskatchewan, 189 in Alberta, and 38 in British Columbia were born alive following an abortion.

On a per capita basis, the number of babies born alive and allegedly left to die is twice as high in Alberta as in Ontario, Canada’s most populated province.

That’s a 20-fold increase since 2000, which according to a National Post report, is “likely because increased pre-natal screening has led to more late-term abortions generally.”

The Post also reported that “Almost all the infants accidentally born alive die within a few hours — in circumstances that doctors describe as generally ‘devastating’ for the parents.”

  3. Coriolanus says:

Abortion is a woman’s human right. A newborn/fetus is not conscious, can’t attribute value to its own existence, it is not self-aware, and lacks personhood, it has no ethical standing.

The autonomy of women is far more important. Reproductive rights are integral to a free country that wants to preserve bodily autonomy.

    • Roxie says:

How would you know the fetus is NOT conscious? It responds to stimuli. It can feel pain and respond after 18-22 weeks. Is consciousness a requirement for survival? If someone is in a coma, we don’t know how self=aware they are, so are they okay to terminate?

The problem with your use of the word “autonomy” is that this is a separate organism, with different DNA, possible a different gender or blood type. No one is arguing about the women’s body, just the organism that is living inside temporarily.

In response to: “Reproductive rights are integral to a free country that wants to preserve bodily autonomy.”

Isn’t the preservation and protection of life more important?

By the way, in case you haven’t noticed, the pro-abortion movement is now taking away the FREEDOM of individuals to FORCE them to perform or promote abortion. It’s obviously become too political.

It is legalized murder as far as Mr. Neeley and myself are concerned. Women shoud think more of their lives, and should NOT kill their “mistake”. Thousands of people would give anything to have a child…. so very sad. it makes me so angry about the state our world is in.
