Cameron Todd Willingham biopic ‘Trial by Fire’ heads to theaters on May 17
Cameron Todd Willingham is a convicted felon, executed for murdering his three young children by arson at the family home in Corsicana, Texas, on December 23, 1991. Since Willingham’s 2004 execution, significant controversy has arisen over the interpretation of the evidence that was used to convict him of arson and murder.
Trial by Fire is directed by ACADEMY AWARD® Winner Edward Zwick (Glory, Legends of the Fall,Traffic). Adapted by ACADEMY AWARD® Geoffrey Fletcher (Precious) from David Grann’s article originally published in The New Yorker, Trial by Fire had its world premiere at the 2018 Telluride Film Festival, and is produced by Edward Zwick, Allyn Stewart (Sully, Madeline, I Dreamed of Africa), Kipp Nelson (Sully, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For) and Alex Soros. Executive Producers are Kathryn Dean and Marshall Herskovitz.
Starring Jack O’Connell (Godless, Money Monster, Unbroken) and Laura Dern (Star Wars: Episode VIII, Big Little Lies, Wild), the film includes a talented supporting cast — Emily Meade (The Deuce, The Leftovers) as Stacy Willingham, Chris Coy (The Deuce, Detroit), Jeff Perry (“Scandal,”) and McKinley Belcher III (“Ozark”).
