Calista Flockhart a series regular for ‘Supergirl’ season 2

While the show has moved to the CW Network, Supergirl will have some key players returning and Calista Flockhart is set to continue as the obnoxious Cat Grant, owner of the newspaper.

“An agreement has been reached between the actress and Supergirl producer Warner Bros TV. Flockhart, a regular in Season 1, will be a recurring guest star next season. I hear she flies tomorrow to Vancouver where production starts next week,” Deadline noted in their coverage.

With the move to a new network, the production was moved to  Vancouver where all other Greg Berlanti CW superhero series are being shot. The move helped trim the show’s production costs as it is going to its new network home.

“Keeping Flockhart onboard with the new filming location had been problematic as she was not willing to uproot her family to move to Vancouver. She was not obligated to continue (Alyssa Milano similarly left ABC’s Mistresses when its production moved from Los Angeles to Canada). In the end, a compromise was reached, and the studio will fly Flockhart to Vancouver every few weeks or so.”

Supergirl wouldn’t be Supergirl without the amazing Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant,” said Supergirl executive producer Andrew Kreisberg. “We are so excited Calista has agreed to continue on the show when she can. We and the audience love to see her on screen.”

Season 2 will see some new characters: new characters: Nick Farrow, a ‘brash leading man’ who ‘butts heads with Kara at CatCo’; The Doctor, ‘the diabolical female leader of Project Cadmus who uses her surgical skills to implant prisoners with alien technology’; Snapper Carr, ‘a veteran journalist appointed by Cat to remake the news division by going old school’; and Maggie Sawyer, ‘an out and proud detective for the newly formed Science Police, which deals specifically with metahuman and alien threats’.
