California high school student in critical condition after being attacked by Gregory Richmond with a hammer
A 16-year-old Chino High School student was in critical condition after he was struck in the head with a hammer by a 48-year-old attacker across the street from the school campus, police said. Gregory Richmond has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, according to Chino Police Department officials.
The boy was taken by a helicopter to a hospital after the incident
The attack Thursday afternoon forced officials to lock down the campus and a nearby elementary school until police apprehended a suspect, said City of Chino spokeswoman Michelle Van Der Linden.
Richmond’s spouse Raina Renee Crawford, age 40, was arrested by Chino police at an apartment complex across the street from the high school, according to records from the San Bernardino County sheriff’s office.
Both have been booked for attempted murder and are being held in lieu of $1-million bail.
It was unclear if Richmond knew the victim.
Police said investigators had not determined what prompted the attack.
