California ‘bathroom bill’ allows gender identity to determine bathroom use and would allow boys to join the girl team sports

The California State legislature is considering a bill that would allow public school children to use bathrooms based on gender identity not on their biological gender.

Assembly Bill 1266, was introduced by Assemblyman Tom Ammiano (D-San Francisco) and would allow students to use bathrooms designated for the opposite sex if their gender identity allowed.

The legislation aims to deal with students who are born male or female but”identify” with the opposite gender of their birth.

Here’s the language of the bill:

A pupil shall be permitted to participate in sex-segregated school programs, and activities, and facilities, including athletic teams and competitions, and use facilities consistent with his or her gender identity, irrespective of the gender listed on the pupil’s records.

Biological males would also be permitted to try out and play on girls’ team sports if their gender identity was female.

The bill would “require that a pupil be permitted to participate in sex-segregated school programs and activities, including athletic teams and competitions, and use facilities consistent with his or her gender identity, irrespective of the gender listed on the pupil’s record.”

The Pacific Justice Institute has set up a website in opposition to what it calls the “bathroom bill.”

Critics, like genderinsanity.com, are pointing to disturbing bathroom scenarios: “Picture this … your 7 year-old daughter comes home from school in tears. You ask her what’s wrong and she says she’s afraid to go to the bathroom at school because a boy comes in while she’s there. Outraged, you call the school to demand an explanation. You’re told that your daughter is telling the truth, but because the boy says he wants to be a girl, their hands are tied. ‘It’s the law.”'”
