Bruce Willis says ‘Looper’ is his best film ever
Bruce Willis is no stranger to science fiction with “Fifth Element” and “Surrogates,” two of his contributions to the genre. The “Die Hard” star discussed his upcoming time travel film “Looper,” saying it is his best work to date.
Speaking with Esquire, the “Sixth Sense” star praised the film and the director.
“It’s better than anything I’ve ever done.”
Director Rian Johnson’s most recent film was “The Brothers Bloom,” which was met with mixed reviews. Willis reassures Sci-Fi fans that they will not be disappointed.
“Rian did an amazing thing. He conceived an original story. He wrote it, sold it, stuck with it, directed it, and finished it. That’s just tough to do in this town. Someone always weasels into the process. That didn’t happen here. And if he never did anything else except that Herculean effort, he’d have made it in the business. Amazing.”
Like many other science fiction films, especially those involving time travel, Willis confirms that fans may need to see “Looper” more than once.
“It’s more than an original story. It’s a story people are going to talk about, and see twice. And argue about. I was arguing with myself about the story when I read it the first time. That’s all Rian Johnson, beginning to end. Great, great director.”
Joseph Gordon-Levitt (“Inception,” “Dark Knight Rises”) stars as a Looper, a hired assassin in the year 2042. The loopers work with mafia bosses from 2072 as they send back target in time to be assassinated. Gordon-Levitt recognizes one of his assignments as the future version of himself (Willis), hesitates allowing his future self an escape.
The comments from Willis echo those by his co-star, when Gordon-Levitt also stated that the film is “the best work I’ve ever done” while talking with MTV last month.
“Looper” opens in theaters September 28, 2012.
