‘Bridesmaids’ star Wendi McLendon-Covey to join Adam Sandler, Drew Barrymore for ‘The Familymoon’
Wendi McLendon-Covey has joined the cast of The Familymoon, a Warner Bros. comedy that reteams Adam Sandler with his Wedding Singer co-star Drew Barrymore, according to The Wrap.
The film follows a couple (Sandler and Barrymore) whose disastrous blind date lands them at a family resort with their children from previous marriages.
This will be Sandler and Barrymore’s third romantic comedy together, formerly called Blended, and now is gearing up for its May 23, 2014 release.
Joel McHale will play Barrymore’s former husband while McLendon-Covey will play Barrymore’s best friend, a woman who has no children.
McLendon-Covey, who charmed audiences as the forthright Rita in Bridesmaids, will soon wrap the Atlanta-based film and then fly off to star in a TV show for Happy Madison — The Goldbergs. That show starts production Aug. 5.
Frank Coraci is directing from a rewrite Sandler and Tim Herlihy are doing of the original screenplay from Ivan Menchell and Clare Sera. Coraci also directed the first Sandler-Barrymore pic, 1998′s The Wedding Singer as well as other Sandler films Click and The Waterboy.
The two actors also appeared together in 2004’s 50 First Dates.
