Brian Jennings, Youth Pastor helping stranded driver, identified among 4 killed in Texas
A youth pastor has been identified as one of the victims of a massive wreck in North Texas that left four dead and at least six injured.
Alsbury Baptist Church in Burleson confirmed youth minister Brian Jennings was one of the people killed in the crash around midnight Saturday southeast of Fort Worth.
Friends say Jennings, age 41, had attended a graduation party for one of his three children and was heading back to the church when he stopped to help a disabled vehicle. A woman and her daughter who live nearby were already at the scene.
Authorities believe the disabled vehicle was hit, causing a wreck involving an SUV, two pickups and a car.
Tarrant County sheriff’s spokesman Terry Grisham says authorities believe alcohol was likely a factor.
The other victims were not immediately identified.
“This really shouldn’t have happened. It’ll always be that thing they remember on Father’s Day,” said Scott Sharman, a fellow pastor and close family friend of the Jennings family. “It is really tough.”
Jennings was married and had worked at the church for close to six years.
Investigators still were trying to figure out late Sunday just where he and the other three that were killed were standing.
“Because of the way of the wreckage; because of the number of vehicles; because of the somewhat compact crime scene we have; a two-lane road and trees on either side; it makes it difficult to piece together exactly who was where at the time of the initial impact,” said Grisham.
