Police in Cudahy, Wisconsin found a father and daughter dead on New Year’s Day in what investigators have called a murder-suicide.

A woman called 911 at 1:40 AM Friday requesting police and medical assistance and when officers got to the house, they found Brett Monroe, 27, and his 2-year-old daughter suffering from gunshot wounds.

Members of the Cudahy Fire Department tried to revive the little girl, Skylar. The father was pronounced dead at the scene. Emergency responders rushed the child to Children’s Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

“This is a horrific tragedy,” said Chief Tom Poellot, Cudahy Police Department.

Police are still trying to uncover a motive as friends rally to support the mother, Heather, pay for funeral expenses.

“The 27-year-old male was pronounced deceased on-scene and the two-year-old female was transported to Children’s Hospital where she was pronounced deceased,” said Poellot, adding that he didn’t “want to hamper the investigation by disclosing any other details at this point or speculating on anything,”

“We’ll be here for the mother, grandmother,” friend Carol Kolbe told CBS 58 News reporter Sarah Barwacz.

“It’s definitely horrible and tragic and we didn’t see him as a bad guy at all,” added neighbor Cassandra Theno. “It’s just horrible.”
