Brett Kavanaugh confirmation resumes tomorrow, supporters rally in prayer
The Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing tomorrow at 10 a.m. in which Christine Blasey Ford, who lodged a 36-year-old accusation against Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh, will testify. However, the events of the day will begin with a prayer rally on Capitol Hill from 8:30-9:30 a.m. in the park behind the Russell Senate Office Building.

The Senate Judiciary Committee has scheduled a vote on the Supreme Court nomination of Kavanaugh for 9:30 a.m. Friday. Under regular order, a Friday committee vote would enable Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to bring the nomination to the floor and file a procedural motion on Saturday to break a potential filibuster. That would set up a key cloture vote for as early as Monday, October 1. The final vote may occur by next Wednesday. Committee rules normally require executive business meetings to be noticed three days in advance, so an executive business meeting is being noticed tonight in the event that a majority of the members are prepared to hold one on Friday.
Deborah Ramirez, who according to The New Yorker alleges that Kavanaugh acted sexually inappropriate towards her at a party during their college freshman year, will not testify tomorrow. Julie Swetnick, represented by Michael Avenatti (who is part of the resistance movement), came forward today claiming that Kavanaugh was present when girls were being drugged and gang raped in high school in 1982.
Kavanaugh “categorically and unequivocally” denied the allegations by Ford, Ramirez, and Swetnick. He further stated that these recent allegations from Swetnick are from the “Twilight Zone.” Sixty-five women who have known Kavanaugh since high school signed a letter stating the he has always acted honorably and with respect toward women. Over 75 women held a press conference expressing support for Kavanaugh.

Kavanaugh has submitted his calendar pages to the committee, which support his denial of sexual misconduct allegations and show that he was away for most of the summer in 1982, the year that Ford claims Kavanaugh assaulted her at a party. Georgetown Prep classmates Mark Judge, Patrick J. Smyth, and Leland Ingham have all denied any knowledge of attending the alleged party,
In Ford’s letter to Senator Dianne Feinstein, she originally had the date of the allegation as “in the early 1980’s” but then changed her story to 1982.
