Brent Bartel, Texas man, arrested for ‘carving’ a pentagram in son’s back for 12/12/12

12/12/12 for a North Texas man meant that he needed to “carve” a pentagram into his 6-year-old son’s back on Wednesday. This was increasingly bizarre because the man called 911 on himself, telling the dispatcher that he performed the act to commemorate the day.

Brent Troy Bartel was arrested, charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, says Richland Hills Police Department. The Judge has set the man’s bail at $500,000.

Bartel phoned emergency services and stated he “shed some innocent blood.”

When asked why he carved the pentagram, he stated that “it was a holy day,” adding a dose of insanity to the already long list of 12/12/12 events.

Police say the majority of the child’s back was covered with the image that carries multiple meanings. A box cutter, thought to be used to scribe the image, was found on the scene.

“This is something you normally hear about in the movies, not something you expect to see,” said Sgt. Nathan Stringer.

WFAA said the child was taken to Cooks Children’s Hospital where his condition was listed as stable. Child Protective Services and a victim liaison group are investigating the developing story.
