Brazil: Sao Paulo reports 12,500 dengue fever cases in 2014 to date
The dengue fever tally in the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo has reached 12,500 cases to date, increasing by about 1,000 cases during the past week, according to a Prefeitura de Sao Paulo notice published June 26 (computer translated).

A survey released on Wednesday by the Municipal Health shows that the total number of confirmed cases of dengue in the city of São Paulo this year reached 12,531, 10% more than last week (11,392 cases). More than half of the year accumulated cases (71%) is concentrated in the six weeks between March and May. The Secretariat also confirmed two more deaths from the disease in the city, bringing the total fatalities due to dengue to 10.

According to the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Brazil has reported 485,000 dengue fever cases in 2014, as of June 12. All four dengue strains have been detected. 119 people have died from dengue fever to date. In 2013, Brazil recorded over 1.4 million dengue cases (by far the most in the Americas) and nearly 600 deaths.
