The first WWE Smackdown Live following Extreme Rules is from the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Tonight’s card features a rematch for the United States Championship between Shinsuke Nakamura (c) and Jeff Hardy. This also begins the journey toward SummerSlam.

Bodyslam – Jeff delivered a decent promo and he hearkened back to the Broken gimmick multiple times, getting pops from the crowd. Jeff Hardy is a strange one, and his persona matches his personality.

— WWE (@WWE) July 18, 2018
Bodyslam – Styles and Almas were fantastic together. This was a much higher quality match than you’ll typically see for the opener of Smackdown. There was a lot of back and forth and Almas looked like he knew everything Styles was going to do before he did it. He even reversed the setup for the Styles Clash and set Styles on the other side of the ropes, waited for Styles to attempt the Phenomenal Forearm, and reversed that also. The false finishes and the feeling that Almas could truly win this at any second made this match exceptionally exciting. We need to see these two together more.
Aiden English and Lana Backstage
“The question is now: Are YOU best for @RusevBUL?” – @LanaWWE to @WWEDramaKing #SDLive pic.twitter.com/BOhDI9uJ5c
— WWE Universe (@WWEUniverse) July 18, 2018
Bodyslam – Aiden English had better beg Lana for forgiveness, becausehis singing of Rusev Day is a big part of why they because so popular. Rusev can stand on his own, but the Rusev Day gimmick will die without English.
Becky Lynch vs. Mandy Rose with Sonya Deville
Becky Lynch win by Submission, forcing the tap out from Mandy Rose with the Disarm Her. Becky called out Carmella after the match.

— WWE (@WWE) July 18, 2018
Bodyslam – Mandy Rose is still getting better, and Becky Lynch is still exciting in the ring. They put on a pretty good match here, and Becky had a solid promo afterward. It will be nice to see Lynch back in the championship picture.
General Manager Paige Backstage with Carmella

— WWE (@WWE) July 18, 2018
Bodyslam – Carmella is cocky and demands to be worshiped. She really is the Staten Island Princess. Paige is completely in charge of her show and sets things up for SummerSlam. Both women own their roles and are completely convincing.

That’s it. @WWEDillinger = #SDLive @SamoaJoe pic.twitter.com/PMmoStZvkT
— WWE (@WWE) July 18, 2018
Botch – Was Tye Dillinger asleep? Because his eyes were open. Tom Phillips said he tapped out and also said he was put to sleep on commentary. Dillinger was acting like he was asleep, and it looked like his arm was flapping, not tapping. But his eyes were open. Nevermind, it was a squash match anyway, and Samoa Joe brutalized Dillinger.

— WWE (@WWE) July 18, 2018
Bodyslam – The Miz is a master on the mic, and commands the stage in segments like this. Daniel Bryan coming out from behind Miz and getting the better of him and his goons was perfect. Let Miz to the talking and Bryan do the fighting. That’s how you use talents according to their strengths. It’s a cheesy segment, but it works with the Miz. And Bryan didn’t have to play along in any way, so it worked out.
The New Day in the Locker Room

Bodyslam – Even in defeat, they are always positive. The New Day is still fun, after all this time.

Bodyslam – These two were incredible together and the feud between these two stables is red hot. Eric and Kofi match up really well together, and their quickness and presence of mind in the ring allows them to do some really cool stuff. This feud can have some longevity and will probably give us some great matches the entire time.
United States Championship Rematch
Shinsuke Nakamura (c) vs. Jeff Hardy
Jeff Hardy wins by Disqualification after Randy Orton interferes and attacks Hardy as he is pinning Nakamura. Hardy and Orton fight at ringside, with Orton gaining the advantage and brutalizing Hardy, including putting his finger through Hardy’s ear piercing and pulling.

— WWE (@WWE) July 18, 2018
Bodyslam – The match from Hardy and Nakamura was excellent, and is what we were all expecting to see at Extreme Rules. Randy Orton once again came out of nowhere and helped Nakamura keep the title, so it seems he’ll be keeping it for the time being. Orton and Hardy are clearly heading into a new feud. It would be nice to see more matches between Hardy and Nakamura, because it seems like they’re just getting started. Orton pulling on Hardy’s ear piercing was horrific and awesome.
