Bowen’s Botches and Bodyslams: WWE RAW Results and Review May 28 2018

Tonight’s RAW comes from The Coliseum in Richmond, Virginia. The card features Seth Rollins defending his Intercontonental Championship against Jinder Mahal. There will also be a Gauntlet Match to determine RAW’s final competitor in the Women’s Money In The Bank Ladder Match.

Braun Strowman In The Ring

Braun Strowman calls out all of the other competitors in MitB and says he’s going to be the Monster in the Bank, and Brock Lesnar is going to get these hands. Finn Balor comes out and reminds us that he was the first Universal Champion and never lost the title, and that still eats him up. And although he gave everything he had last week, at MitB it will be six other men in the ring. Braun says Finn fights pretty good for a little guy. Finn slaps Braun, and Braun tosses Finn out of the ring. Kurt Angle comes out and continues to put over the MitB match and makes another one-on-one match between Braun Strowman and Finn Balor right now.

BodyslamBasic promos all about selling the MitB match. Strowman and Balor are great together, and picking up right where we left off last week is a pretty good choice.

Braun Strowman vs. Finn Balor with Kevin Owens on commentary

Braun Strowman Wins by Disqualification After Kevin Owens Interferes and Attacks Finn Balor.

BodyslamKevin Owens goading them from the announce table was great, but also made his interference inevitable. Braun and Finn were great in the their match, and Kevin was great on the mic and playing his role. No surprises, but fun to watch.

Kevin Owens Backstage

Kevin is trying to get out of the building quickly, but Kurt Angle catches him and tells him he’s not going anywhere, because he has a match tonight. So go get dressed.

BodyslamOwens is so good, and this came off perfectly. Angle seems to be in control of the show for the first time in weeks.

Elias In The Ring

Elias starts off his song, but calls for the lights to come in so he doesn’t have to see the crowd. Then he calls for his vocals to be turned up so he can hear more Elias and less of the crowd. He continues to insult the crowd and tease walking out into commercial and coming back from break. Finally Seth Rollins comes out and kicks him out of the ring so he can start his match.

BodyslamElias is brilliant, and plays this role perfectly. He’s going to have more longevity by getting to come out and get heat without actually having to wrestle.

Seth Rollins (c) vs. Jinder Mahal with Sunil Singh for the Intercontinental Championship

Jinder Mahal Wins by Disqualification After Seth Rollins Uses a Steel Chair. Rollins retains Intercontinental Championship. Elias Ambushes Rollins From Behind With His Guitar.

BodyslamJinder Mahal had his best match since facing AJ Styles. Jinder looks great, and plays the foreign heel perfectly, but he seems to need to have the best carry him to have great matches. Seth was fantastic, and losing his cool on Jinder Mahal and Sunil Singh with the chair fit with his character. Elias ambushing him with the guitar shot afterward was perfect, and it all came off well.

Nia Jax vs. Michelle Webb with Ronda Rousey on commentary

Nia Jax Demolishes Michelle Webb and Coaxes Ronda Rousey to the Ring.

BotchNia Jax came off as a bully, which is a complete turnaround from where she was a month ago. Maybe that’s the intention, but are they really trying to say Alexa Bliss was right all along?

The Deleter of Worlds (Matt Hardy and Bray Wyatt) vs. The Ascension (Konnor and Viktor)

Matt Hardy Pins Konnor After Hardy and Wyatt Deliver The Kiss of Deletion.

BodyslamThe Ascension are better than their lack of exposure indicates. They looked really good in this match. I hope they step up and do what it takes to earn a better spot. Matt and Bray are still great together, but they’re in need of direction and mic time. These are two men who can nail promos and their characters need them regularly to keep their zaniness up to date. If the last few weeks are your first exposure to these guys, you have no idea why they are cool.

Kurt Angle Backstage with The B Team

The B Team want a tag team title shot, but Angle asks what the other tag teams would think if he let them leapfrog up to the titles. Bo Dallas thinks that means they need to win over the other tag teams, and they’ll do it with an invitation to The B Team Memorial Day Tag Team Barbecue tonight.

BodyslamThe B Team are so ridiculous and stupid, but it’s entertaining. They’re owning the role and pulling it off. If there’s anybody that can help them get over with ridiculous and stupid, it’s Kurt Angle. It worked for him.

Bobby Roode vs. Kevin Owens

Kevin Owens Pins Bobby Roode. Braun Strowman Attacks Kevin Owens and Bobby Roode Afterward.

BodyslamBobby and Kevin put on a fantastic match. They got to go for a decent amount of time and took full advantage. Braun’s attack afterward was good, but the look on Bobby Roode’s face when Braun grabbed him by the throat was priceless.

Sami Zayn In Ring Public Apology

Sami Zayn delivers his apology by turns it around because he was still telling the truth and he is the one owed an apology. Bobby Lashley comes out and first gives a quick Memorial Day tribute. He then calls out Sami and challenges him to a match at Money in the Bank, and asks Sami to shake his hand. Sami complies and Bobby starts to crush Sami’s hand, dropping him to his knees. Bobby says he owes an apology for everything he’ll do to Sami at MitB.

BotchIt’s significantly better than last week’s segment for this feud, but it was hampered by negative momentum and didn’t give a real payoff. A little bit of action between the two men might have saved it.

Drew McIntyre with Dolph Ziggler vs. Chad Gable

Drew McIntyre Hits the Claymore and Pins Chad Gable.

BodyslamBoth Drew McIntyre and Chad Gable looked great in this match. I feel like a broken record, but the word that always comes to mind with Drew is “impressive”. He remains such.

The B Team Memorial Day Barbecue

The Ascension, Breezango, The Revival, Titus Worldwide, and HYeath Slater & and Ryhno are in the ring with The B Team. Bo and Curtis make them all feel welcome at the BBQ, offer them the food, and thank them for letting them move ahead to a title shot. Titus O’Neil and Heath Slater let them know they won’t be jumping ahead. The inevitable food fight breaks out after Titus pours the baked beans on Bo Dallas and Fandango dumps the bowl of potato salad on Curtis Axel. It all ends with The B Team putting Rhyno through a table.

Bodyslam So ridiculous, so stupid, and so satisfying. This is how it works. Not the way ridiculous and stupid is being done in Bobby Lashley and Sami Zayn’s feud.

Kurt Angle Backstage

The B Team come to Kurt asking for a tag team title shot. Kurt says he’s still not letting them jump ahead of the other tag teams, but they can settle this in the ring. Next week there will be a Tag Team Battle Royal, with the winners going on to face the RAW Tag Team Champions at Money In The Bank. Bo thanks Kurt for this opportunity and shakes his hand. Curt thanks Angle for the opportunity and give him a hug. Angle is left covered in potato salad.

Bodyslam The B Team and Kurt Angle, still firing on all cylinders tonight.

Women’s Division Money In The Bank Qualifying Gauntlet Match – Bayley, Sasha Banks, Mickie James, Dana Brooke, Ruby Riot, Sarah Logan, Liv Morgan

Bayley pins Liv Morgan, Bayley pins Sarah Logan, Ruby Riott pins Bayley, Ruby Riott pins Dana Brooke, Ruby Riott pins Mickie James, Sasha Banks taps out Ruby Riott with the Bank Statement.

BodyslamThe winner was predictable, but it seemed as though Ruby Riott might win near the end. The Riott Squad failing to win despite the numbers advantage was a good thing in the end. A Gauntlet Match can sometimes fall flat if it doesn’t flow well or has bad matchups. This one came of with all the right matchups and never fell apart. Another great performance from the Women’s Division.
