Bowen’s Botches and Bodyslams: WWE RAW Results and Review July 30 2018

WWE Monday Night RAW is from the American Airlines Arena in Miami, Florida and features the return of both Ronda Rousey and Brock Lesnar. We can count on more buildup toward SummerSlam and the promotion of Evolution in October.

Show Opener with Roman Reigns In Ring

BotchMiami is friendly territory for Roman, so his flat promo carried better than it would elsewhere. It was the same complaints about Brock as the fans, which he has repeated multiple times, and his rebuttal to Paul Heyman wasn’t witty or intimidating, just the same lame profanity he hasn’t lived up to before.

Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman Backstage

BodyslamPaul Heyman is good enough to sell this segment. Brock reading the magazine, not paying attention, breaking Paul’s phone, it’s far more than necessary for this story to make sense. There’s definitely foreshadowing of Paul Heyman turning on Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam and being the cause of Lesnar losing the title.

Finn Balor vs. Constable Baron Corbin

Baron Corbin pins Finn Balor after the End of Days. Corbin returns to the ring to assault Balor after the match.

BodyslamGreat opening match. Hard hitting, emotional, and it seemed like a believable fight the whole time. These two are building on incredible chemistry and making magic in the ring.

Paul Heyman and General Manager Kurt Angle Backstage

BodyslamHeyman is in hot water if he doesn’t get his client in front of the fans, and you can tell he is feeling the pressure. It’s good to see Angle get a chance to seem like he is in charge.

Alicia Fox and Alexa Bliss Backstage

BodyslamAlicia Fox is back and crazy again. She is spectacular at crazy.

Natalya with Ronda Rousey vs. Alicia Fox with Alexa Bliss

Alicia Fox pins Natalya after a Bog Boot set up by Alex Bliss’ interference.

BodyslamThe match started out awkward, but Alicia Fox is just getting back into wrestling full time again. The story was well done anyway, and we get more build toward the clash between Bliss and Rousey at SummerSlam.

Paul Heyman and Brock Lesnar in the Locker Room

BotchThey’re being very heavy handed with making Brock out to be a jerk. It shouldn’t take this much effort. I guess when you only have him for one show until SummerSlam, you have to pack in a full month worth of character development in one night.

Kurt Angle and Ronada Rousey with Natalya Backstage

BodyslamRonda going right to Kurt for a fight is perfect for her, and Kurt gets to make a match. Next week Rousey faces Alicia Fox. Finally we’ll get to see Ronda Rousey in a match on television.

Elias In Ring

Bodyslam Making Bobby Lashley sing Rockin’ Robin has to be part of Bobby’s continued hazing upon his return to WWE. Elias was masterful as always, and Bobby looked like a dominating physical specimen. Overall, great segment.

Constable Baron Corbin and Kevin Owens Backstage

BodyslamCorbin is even more aloof than usual, and Kevin seems genuinely concerned for his chance to steal Strowman’s contract.

Braun Strowman vs. Jinder Mahal with Sunil Singh

Jinder Mahal wins by Countout when Braun Strowman chases after Kevin Owens who was trying to steal Braun’s Money In The Bank contract.

BodyslamWe didn’t even get a match, but we got to see Braun Strowman at his angriest, which is frightening. Strowman continues to impress.

Mojo Rawley in the WWE Locker Room

BodyslamMojo being a jerk in the locker and getting confronted by Bobby Roode was the perfect next move for this feud. The fight came across intense, and I am looking forward to more from this feud.

Apollo Crews with Titus O’neil and Dana Brooke vs. Akam with Rezar

Apollo Crews Rolls Up Akam for the Pinfall victory.

BodyslamThis was my favorite match so far. Apollo Crews is so incredible in the ring, and these two put on a great singles match for as short as it was. I want more Apollo in singles competition after this feud is over.

Seth Rollins vs. Drew McIntyre with Dolph Ziggler

Seth Rollins wins by Disqualification after Dolph Ziggler interferes.

BodyslamAnother fantastic match from these two, but this ending is getting old. Hopefully Dean Ambrose returns soon to even out this numbers game.

Roman Reigns in the Locker Room

BodyslamOverall this was lame, but I’m going positive on this because that shot from Roman on Corbinwas awesome. Credit to Corbin for the perfect sell.

RAW Tag Team Champions The B Team In Ring Interview with Charly Caruso

BodyslamThe B stands for Dream. That almost killed me. I was thoroughly entertained the whole time, which is what is most important. It was also a segment that made it clear why The Revival aren’t figuring in to Vince McMahon’s plans. They both look small in the ring with The B Team and The Deleters of Worlds. And those aren’t the biggest guys on the roster. Size matters to Vince, and it matters to the fans in getting them to believe you can fight among the giants in WWE. The Revival are so good, but they may never be the real top guys because of their size, and that’s a little sad.

The Deleters of Worlds (Matt Hardy and Bray Wyatt) vs. The Revival (Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder)

Scott Dawson pins Bray Wyatt after the Shatter Machine.

BodyslamThe Revival are so good at tag team wrestling, and they showed it again here. I hope they can find a way to overcome their size disadvantage. They have to do it with personality, and I’m not sure they have it in them yet.

Seth Rollins Backstage Interview with Renee Young

BodyslamAnother beatdown on Rollins. He needs some backup, and Roman is leaving him high and dry.

Bayley and Sasha Banks vs. The Riott Squad (Liv Morgan and Sarah Logan)

Bayley pins Liv Morgan after the Bayley-to-Belly Suplex.

BodyslamSasha and Bailey have color coordinated outfits now. I think we know who the first Women’s Tag Team Champions will be. This was a great tag team match from the women, and another strong showing from the most consistent division in WWE.

Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman Backstage

BotchStill too much, but again, we’re doing a month’s worth of character development in one night. Is it clear we’re supposed to hate Brock Lesnar yet?

General Manager Kurt Angle and Constable Baron Corbin In Ring

BotchAre we supposed to hate Brock Lesnar? I’m not sure. This is so ridiculously over the top, and it isn’t even achieving the desired result. As the crowd finally started chanting “We Want Roman” a “Roman Sucks” chant rose within it. Even making Brock Lesnar as repulsive as possible doesn’t make another match between him and Roman appealing. I feel like Vince is acting like an angry father toward the WWE Universe. “You’ll watch another main event title match between Brock and Roman and like it!”
