Bowen’s Botches and Bodyslams: WWE RAW Results and Review July 2 2018

WWE Monday Night RAW comes from the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota this evening to lead us in to Extreme Rules. Tonight features Shasha Bank and Bayley going to counseling and certainly Roman Reigns.

Show Opener with Roman Reigns In Ring

BotchRoman is really trying to be convincing in his promo, even though it’s still a script people aren’t buying. He seems kind of heelish, but he’s up against heels. Bringing McIntyre and Ziggler up as top guys with Reigns and Rollins this quickly is a solid move. It’s just too bad the top guys level doesn’t have a main event championship on this show.

Matt Hardy vs. Curtis Axel with Bo Dallas

Curtis Axel pins Matt Hardy

BodyslamA really good match that reminded me of classic wrestling. Another ending out of nowhere with Axel taking advantage of a mistake. I’m hoping this leads into a stipulation match for Extreme Rules.

Roman Reigns and Bobby Lashley in the Locker Room

BotchRoman is definitely being a heel. If people will boo, might as well make him immensely insufferable. Lashley could be more hostile and still be the good guy in this situation. I wonder if this is all to lead into a Triple Threat at SummerSlam with Lashley, Lesnar, and Reigns facing off.

Bayley and Shasha Counseling Session with Dr. Shelby

Bodyslam Dr. Shelby is back. Sasha and Bayley clearly thought they would have separate sessions. The set up for this was good. Let’s see how it pans out.

Titus Worldwide (Titus O’neal and Apollo Crews) vs. Authors of Pain (Akam and Rezar)

Rezar pins Apollo Crews after The Last Chapter

BodyslamAuthors of Pain look to be the Demolition of this generation. Apollo is great, and Titus did not participate in the match at all. I still say Apollo needs to ditch Titus and go solo. He’s too good to be everyone’s stepping stone in Titus Worldwide.

Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins vs. Drew McIntyre and Dolph Ziggler

Rollins and Reigns Win by Disqualification when The Revival attack Reigns.

BodyslamThis was an awesome match, and the ending was better. Rollins was on fire, and McIntyre really looks like the future ruler of RAW. I can’t what for him to strike out on his own and take over.

Kurt Angle and Kevin Owens Backstage

BodyslamKurt and Kevin deliver again, and the look on Kevin’s face when Kurt says he has to face Strowman is perfect.

Constable Baron Corbin In Ring

BodyslamCorbin was actually doing well on the mic tonight. Balor gets the best lines, probably because the Universal Championship is MIA.

Elias, Liv Morgan, and Sarah Logan Backstage

BodyslamElias played their theme song on his acoustic as they trashed the area. Awesome.

Ember Moon vs. Liv Morgan

Ember Moon wins by pinfall after The Eclipse

BodyslamLiv Morgan is immensely improved and Ember Moon was on fire. This was one of those matches that makes one excited for the future of the women’s division.

Sasha Banks and Bayley in Friendship Counseling

BodyslamThis was so much better than I expected. Sasha and Bayley doing mocking impressions of each other was fantastic. Dr. Shelby maintains control better than Kurt Angle.

Roman Reigns and Bobby Lashley vs. The Revival (Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson)

Reins and Lashley win by Disqualification

BodyslamLashley leaving Roman behind after Roman intentionally left Lashley out of the match was perfect. Roman is digging himself into a hole with the locker room. Wilder and Dawson looked great mauling Roman, and really got a chance to shine tonight.

Kurt Angle and Kevin Owens

BodyslamKevin trying to bribe Angle with Shania Twain tickets was great. These two are excellent in their segments.

Kurt Angle and Roman Reigns Backstage

BodyslamWe knew it was coming. Kurt is giving Roman and Bobby a match against each other at Extreme Rules.

Mojo Rawley vs. No Way Jose

Mojo refuses to give Jose a rematch and attacks him from behind. Rawley attacks one of the conga line and then goes back to assaulting Jose ringside.

BotchRawley is killing it in this run, but this was another non-match between them. This angle is stalling out, and needs something to make us care. Rawley and Jose should get a Falls Count Anywhere match at Extreme Rules.

Mickie James with Alexa Bliss vs. Nia Jax with Natalya

Nia Jax pins Mickie James after hitting a Samoan Drop.

BotchNia still seems so stiff in her promos. It’s almost as though she’s backsliding. The match was passable, but Mickie and Nia don’t seem to match up that well. At least Nia got to do her power wrestling moves that are always satisfying.

Kevin Owens and Jinder Mahal Backstage

Bodyslam“I was surprised by you popping up like a little gremlin.” Owens is fantastic. He owns who he is and what he does. And What is the deal with Jinder becoming the backstage guru? That’s a quick shift from the hostility of the Modern Day Maharaja. Funny nonetheless.

Bobby Lashley Backstage Interview with Renee Young

BodyslamBobby did well, he just isn’t intense in any way. And without intensity he is wierdly mild-mannered with his build. I’d almost rather see him and Apollo Crews together, and let Apollo be the mouthpiece.

Kevin Owens vs. Braun Strowman

Braun Strowman Wins by Countout. Strowman caught Owens in a Port-a-Potty after he ran away. Braun taped it shut, dragged it into the arena, then pushed it off of the stage.

BodyslamBraun Strowman’s feats of strength are one of my favorite things on RAW. The port-a-potty doesn’t cost as much as a vehicle, but it’s still more added to Braun Strowman’s property damage bill. Kevin Owens has a genuine fear of Braun, and Strowman delights in Kevin’s terror. This is my favorite storyline on RAW right now.
