Bowen’s Botches and Bodyslams: WWE RAW Results and Review August 6 2018

WWE Monday Night RAW is coming from Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena Jacksonville, Florida this week. Tonight’s card features Ronda Rousey’s first match on RAW against Alicia Fox along with Bobby Roode vs. Mojo Rawley. We are sure to get the latest build toward SummerSlam as well.

Show Opener with General Manager Kurt Angle and Constable Baron Corbin In Ring

BodyslamNot an Earth-shaking intro, but everything made sense and Roman didn’t come out looking foolish for saying things that don’t align with reality. Leading right into a match between Reigns and Corbin to start the show was a good choice.

Roman Reigns vs. Constable Baron Corbin

Roman Reigns wins by Pinfall after hitting the Spear. Corbin tried to run from Reigns but was stopped at the ramp by Finn Balor. Balor attacked Corbin after the match and delivered the Coup De Grace.

BodyslamThe match was well done, but maybe a bit too plodding of a pace to start the show. Finn Balor’s presence breathed a new life into the match as it was starting to deflate, as was the crowd. The finish of the match was anti-climactic, but Balor’s attack on Corbin afterward was satisfying.

General Manager Kurt Angle and Seth Rollins Backstage

BodyslamKurt and Seth have great chemistry and were all smiles. I think Angle has a man-crush on Rollins.

Bobby Roode vs. Mojo Rawley

Bobby Roode pins Mojo Rawley after a Glorious DDT.

BodyslamExcellent match with both men having a chance to shine. Roode coming out on top helps reverse his recent course. He is a superstar, but needs to go back to being a heel to be at his best. Rawley is a powerhouse and is making the most of this opportunity.

Elias Backstage

BodyslamElias being pretentious is Elias at his best.

Elias In Ring

BodyslamElias controlled the crowd, and Lashley asserted his dominance. Elias’ trickery and cheap shots and digs at the crowd in every city is still not enough to keep people from cheering for him. This is Lashley’s best angle so far in his comeback. These two could match up well and do something special when this culminates.

Seth Rollins In Locker Roomwith Tyler Breeze and Roman Reigns

BodyslamTyler Breeze is trying to find his place with his partner in style out of action. No surprise to see Roman Reigns step up to be Seth Rollins’ partner against Ziggler and McIntyre.

Rezar with Akam vs. Titus O’Neil with Apollo Crews and Dana Brooke

Rezer pins Titus O’Neil after a huge Chokeslam Spinebuster.

BotchTitus looked as if he didn’t know what to do next and Rezar made him look squishy, finishing Titus off as soon as momentum shifted into his favor. Titus continues to look like the weak link in Titus Worldwide with this loss. Apollo desperately needs to break out on his own.

The Kevin Owens Show with Jinder Mahal and Sunil Singh

BodyslamKevin Owens did most of the talking, which is probably unavoidable but also best for Jinder. Another feat of strentgh from Braun Storwman with him flipping the stage the show was on from out of nowehere. Tack that on to Braun Strowman’s Property Damage Bill.

Jinder Mahal with Sunil Singh and Kevin Owens vs. Braun Strowman

Jinder Mahal wins by Disqualification after Braun Strowman hits him with the MitB breifcase.

BotchThis was supposed to be chaotic but was just kind of a mess. No one looks good coming out of this, but Braun’s shine is hard to tarnish right now. If there’s anyone on the roster you can do this to and not bury as a result, it’s him.

Baron Corbin and Kurt Angle Backstage

BodyslamCorbin is smirking and Angle is worried after a phone call from Stephanie McMahon. My guess is she’s blocking Roman from competing again tonight.

Roman Reigns Interview with Corey Graves

BotchIt’s a recap vignette and interview that’s supposed to get Roman over as the face and remind the audience of the history between him and Brock Lesnar. It does its job, but is more of the same for Roman’s character. Nothing feels different going into SummerSlam, so why should the result be different?

Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins with Kurth angle and Baron Corbin Backstage

BodyslamAnd Stephanie has blocked Roman from competing again tonight. Clearly telegraphed, but Roman Reigns took another shot at Baron Corbin, which was once again sold perfectly by the Constable.

Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre vs. Seth Rollins

Dolph Ziggler pins Seth Rollins after a Superkick thought Drew McIntyre was the legal man, exploiting the confusion of both Seth Rollins and the referee.

BodyslamA fantastic, high energy, fast paced match with a great in ring story. I was hoping Tyler Breeze would run out to help Seth, but having Seth come out on the losing end alone makes for a better lead into the future of this story and Dean Ambrose’s emminent return. He was mentioned again tonight, so they’re stoking the fire for his arrival.

The B Team (Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel) (c) vs. The Revival (Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder)

The match ends in Disqualification when Matt Hardy and Bray Wyatt appear after the lights go out, replacing the partners of Dallas and Dawson at the corners and then attacking both men.

BodyslamThe match was going well, and the surprise twist ending came out of nowhere. The Deleters of Worlds aren’t finished with The B Team, and The Revival had better be careful about getting in the way.

Paul Heyman Interview with Renee Young

BodyslamHeyman was going for the Oscar with this interview. Powerful performance, and just another piece of video evidence that supports the case for Paul Heyman being the greatest manager in professional wrestling history.

The Boss and Hug Connection (Sasha Banks and Bayley) vs. The Riott Squad (Sarah Logan and Liv Morgan)

Sarah Logan Rolls Up Sasha Banks for the Pinfall victory with help from a distraction from a returning Ruby Riott.

BodyslamThe Women’s Division delivering once again. This may have just become the best tag team feud on RAW, and Ruby Riott’s return was like finding a $20 bill in the parking lot after a great meal at your favorite restaraunt.

Ronda Rousey with Natalya vs. Alicia Fox with Alexa Bliss

Ronda Rousey win by Submission, forcing Alicia Fox to tap out with an Armbar.

BodyslamRousey has brought a whole new level of performance to the Women’s Division. What Ken Shamorck did for the men in the Attitude Era, she is doing now for the women. She has explosiveness and elegance in her moves that come from being an elite martial artist for a long time, and you’ll never get from the WWE Performance Center. Rousey has exceeded my expectations since she has come to WWE, and I can’t wait to see her in action regularly. I know they’re protecting their investment by getting the most out of her name recognition while minimizing risk of injury, but seeing her do this on a weekly basis will do more to draw in viewers than just saying her name ever will.
