Boko Haram, Islamic terrorists, murder over 90 Nigerians in latest attack

At least 90 are reported dead in a Sunday morning attack on a remote village in northeast Nigeria.

Boko Haram gunmen surrounded the village of Izge, near the border with Cameroon, to fired bullets at citizens, burn down homes and set off explosions, the NY Times reports.

“As I am talking to you now, all the dead bodies of the victims are still lying in the streets,” a resident, Abubakar Usman, said by telephone. “We fled without burying them, fearing the terrorists were still lurking in the bushes.”

Lawal Tanko, the police commissioner of Borno State, where the violence took place, confirmed the attack but said he had no details of the casualties.

President Goodluck Jonathan has added extra troops in the area to counter the Muslim group seeking to create a breakaway Islamic nation in northern Nigeria. Jonathan’s efforts have largely failed as the insurgency and violence grows throughout the area.
