Bogus poll says ‘Trump’s lead grows’ by counting Democrats in total
The headline states that “Trump’s lead grows after debate, controversy” and that he’s “up 7 points over last week,” but the details reveal the poll is essentially meaningless with less than a thrid of those polled to strong, registered Republican voters.
Unlike most polls, the Morning Consult is using democrats to show Donald Trump in a massive lead over the other GOP candidates.
Of the 2029 in the survey, only 35% were Mitt Romney voters in 2014 with 44% confessing to be an Obama voter in 2014, 30% describing themselves as liberal and 36% Democrats. In fact, only 29% were Republicans, with 36% claiming to be Independent.
Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio shouldn’t be surprised that they aren’t fairing as well against Trump, since 71% of those polled don’t support the Tea Party.
“No other Republican contender reaches double digits – retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson sits in third place at 9 percent, followed by Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and Sen. Marco Rubio (Fla.) at 6 percent,” their report states.
Hot Air was happy to post the poll results, noting that “…if you’re one of the people who thinks polls are still mostly about name recognition at this point, it’s not surprising at all. If there are nine random people on a stage plus a guy who’s been nationally famous for 30 years, the famous guy is apt to stand out in people’s minds afterward.”
Well, the influence of the Democrats may have proved that to be so.
