‘Black Widow’ solo film gets a director, ‘Doctor Strange 2’ confirmed
Marvel continues to keep details quiet on their future projects, particularly in the wake of the events in Avengers: Infinity War.
Doctor Strange 2
There really is no surprise that a sequel to Doctor Strange is coming. Now Marvel Exec Kevin Feige speaks out about the film during his talk with Cinema Blend.
“Strange, you know, whenever we do another Strange one, which we will do, it will be a number of years from the first Strange, and yet he’s a very big part of [Avengers:] Infinity War. So it is just a good problem to have when you have too many beloved characters that people want to see more of, whilst keeping to our core belief that we need to keep exploring nuance and keep doing different types of things.
Nightmare rumored to be key villain in ‘Doctor Strange 2’
Marvel Studios hasn’t done a full slate announcement since they unveiled Phase Three back in late October 2014, and we are still patiently waiting for official word on what to expect from Phase Four beyond Spider-Man: Far From Home and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
Black Widow
The long-awaited Black Widow solo film has officially landed a creator, Cate Shortland, the Australian filmmaker perhaps best known for the Nazi drama Lore.
Star Scarlett Johansson is credited with petitioning for Shortland: “Shortland, who does not have agency representation, had a fan in Johansson, who pushed for the helmer. The actress admired Shortland’s handling of the female lead in Lore, a critically acclaimed 2012 drama that tells of a young woman who leads her siblings through Germany as the Allied forces roll in. Shortland’s most recent film was Berlin Syndrome, a 2017 thriller that stars Teresa Palmer.”
Jac Schaeffer wrote the most recent draft for Black Widow. She also wrote the upcoming female-centric remake of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, which was formerly titled Nasty Women and is now called The Hustle.
Johansson’s Black Widow is reportedly set before the events of the first Avengers movie and sees the actress reprise the role of the Russian spy turned superheroine. The movie will be Marvel’s second female-focused film after Captain Marvel, which is set to open March 8, 2019.
[…] “It’s the scope of one man’s extraordinary circumstances and the shift of someone who begins as a victim of child abuse and devolves into a drug addict, and the continuing trauma upsetting any stability within his own family,” he said, still silent on the planned Doctor Strange sequel. […]
