From Florida to California appears to be part of the tagline attached to Black Friday coverage this year, featuring early campers waiting for the shopping discounts and special deals.
Wal-Mart, Target and K-Mart have all announced Thanksgiving shopping times as the Black Friday frenzy appears to be creeping earlier and earlier each of the last several years.
The Global Dispatch’s Jinkies Barendse will forego the shopping shenanigans and head to New York for the Macy’s parade. Contributor Laura Jones plans are battling the crowds against this year, but with a more focused tactic.
“We will only be focused on certain items,” she said describing the mob style experience last year in a Wal-Mart.
Wal-Mart moves their opening time up two more hours to 8pm, with big electronics sales (TVs and gadgets) going on sale at 10pm.
Target will be opening earlier as well, at 9pm, and features a similar strategy as their big box store competition.
A few folks were already camped out at the Brandon, Florida Best Buy, but offered little excitement other than tradition when asked why.
“We do this every year,” the Riverview woman who asked for her named to be withheld. “My husband and I take turns with the kids, camp out…It’s something we’ve done as a family the last several years.”
‘Tis the Season which now begins on “Black Thursday.”
