Birmingham murder: Cheryl Watts charged with shooting and killing Hassan Mallette
Birmingham police on Sunday announced the arrest and murder charges against Cheryl Watts, who shot and killed her husband Hassan Mallette.
Mallette, 41, was found shot by police at the home on 5720 Court O. Saturday afternoon around 4 p.m. in Ensley. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service rushed to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Watts, 39, of Birmingham, now faces murder charges her spouse during a domestic dispute, according to police.
In some reports, Watts is identified as a girlfriend and not Hassan’s spouse. Sources didn’t respond to a request for clarification and a full detailed press release on the shooting.
Trussville reports “Detectives believe the shooting started during a dispute between the victim and his girlfriend. The girlfriend was detained by a second security guard and was named the suspect. She was identified as 39-year-old Cheryl Watts, of Birmingham. Watts is being held in the Jefferson County Jail on a $60,000 bond.”
Watts is being held at the Jefferson County Jail.
