Bill Kristol doesn’t buy the ‘war-weariness’, bloodlust exposed again
What is it with Bill Kristol?
His desire for war continues with no sign of ever letting up. Now he’s criticizing those Americans that say they are “war-weary”.
In a recent column in the magazine, The Weekly Standard, Kristol condemns those who use the term or situation as “an excuse”, “So American war-weariness isn’t new. Using it as an excuse to avoid maintaining our defenses or shouldering our responsibilities isn’t new, either. But that doesn’t make it admirable”, Kristol claims after describing the war-weariness after WWI and II, Korea and Vietnam.
He calls on Republicans to challenge the “idol of war-weariness” saying, “A war-weary public can be awakened and rallied. Indeed, events are right now doing the awakening. All that’s needed is the rallying. And the turnaround can be fast.”
Rallied for what? A new war where?
Besides, aren’t a number of Republicans (and some Democrats) already in this mold–McCain, Graham, Ayotte, King, etc, etc? We hear them spouting off on TV daily.
Kristol doesn’t talk about the personal sacrifices the US military and their families have made in the Middle East–The unnecessary war in Iraq that left too many dead, so many horribly injured and disabled and children who now don’t have a father or mother, etc.–and for what? The personal sacrifices he never made, risks he never took.
Kristol refers to a letter to the Wall Street Journal, in which a reader asks the following questions in the context of those who claim “war-weariness”– Did you serve? Did you volunteer to fight oppression in foreign lands? Did your son or brother or husband?
Clearly, Bill Kristol is not war-weary, in fact he sounds like he’s suffering from withdrawals. But I’d like to ask Kristol the same questions as he criticizes others– Did you serve? Did you volunteer to fight oppression in foreign lands?
I think we know the answer to that.
