Bill Cosby will stand trial over Andrea Constand’s allegations

Bill Cosby’s Montgomery County criminal trial for sex-assault charges will proceed.  Amidst dozens of accusations, Temple University employee Andrea Constand’s allegations are the only to produce criminal charges. Cosby has been accused by more than fifty women of sexual assault, with incidents reported beginning in 1969.

The Cosby Show banner Bill CosbyAngela Rose, executive director of PAVE (Promoting Awareness| Victim Empowerment), a DC-based nonprofit organization working to prevent sexual assault and liberate survivors says, “Bill Cosby has been accused of drugging and raping more than 60 women. Today is a small victory for the survivors, and should serve an example to those who disregard the consent of their victims that even a powerful man can and will stand trial for his crimes.”

Cosby, 78, had attempted to delay the start of the case, but his motion was denied. This is the first time Cosby is facing criminal charges, despite the dozens of other women who have accused him of sexual assault. The fallen comedian faces three counts of felony indecent assault from Andrea Constand’s 2004 case.

Last year, Rose’s group spearheaded the campaign to revoke Bill Cosby’s Medal of Freedom with a White House petition that was addressed directly by President Obama.  PAVE’s mission is to empower survivors of sexual assault to thrive after trauma.  Please see their PAVEHollywood initiative to educate members of the entertainment industry to shatter the silence and prevent sexual violence.  PAVE also works with students and schools around the United States to spread the message about the definition of consent.
