Beverley High School mourns death of Jessica Blake

Sharon Japp, head teacher at Beverley High School, has paid tribute to Jessica Blake, 14, who was found dead at the weekend

The teenager disappeared from her home in a “distressed state” on Saturday morning and was last seen riding her pink bike and carrying her newspaper delivery bag around noon.

A major search was launched by Humberside Police when Jess the papergirl failed to return home and was reported missing by her family.

Specialist search teams, underwater divers and locals searched the area after Jess’s bike was found abandoned close to where she was last seen. Her body was discovered in woods on Sunday and her family were informed.

Japp said: “Staff at Beverley High School were shocked and saddened by the news of Jessica Blake’s death. Our thoughts are with her family at this extremely difficult time.

“Jess was a quiet, polite and well behaved pupil. She worked hard; was well respected by her peers and teachers and was about to embark upon GCSE courses. She had a close circle of friends and they, along with her classmates and the rest of the school community, will be deeply affected by our loss.

“As we begin the new academic year next week, Jess will be uppermost in our thoughts. We will support her friends and classmates to help them come to terms with their loss.

“When school reopens, we will discuss with Jess’s friends and classmates a suitable way to mark Jess’s time at school.”
